Great leadership is important to us and at BestStart your leadership journey can start at any time or in any role.  However, the first formal step into a leadership position for most of our people is in the role of Head Teacher.

Being a Head Teacher allows you to begin to lead a small team and refine your leadership skills, learning the art of delegation, turning a group of people into a team and supporting others to meet their individual and the teams collective goals. 

We know the best Head Teachers are natural people people, someone who has empathy, enthusiasm and a sixth sense for knowing when to step in support and when to let others take the lead and grow themselves. 

Our Head Teachers keep their room ticking over each day by overseeing the rostering and compliance to ratios, checking all the compliance documentation and most of all ensuring that their team are working together to provide innovative, highly tailored learning experiences and warm care moments for our tamariki.  That’s the kind of environment that they thrive best in. 

FIRST LEADERS

Naturally some of our new Head Teachers can find taking this step up a little daunting.  We work hard to ensure our potential new Head Teachers are well prepared for this step.  Not only do we have excellent in centre mentoring programmes with a continual focus of growing our leaders from within, we also over a specifically tailored leadership programme for teachers interested in progressing into a Head Teacher role. The programme overs a great introduction into pedadgogical leadership, how to navigate those tricky conversations, supporting a team with their inquiries and a range of other topics that set our new Head Teachers up for success. HEAD TEACHER ESSENTIALS

Head Teacher Essentials is our induction for our new Head Teachers.  They get to meet up with a group of new Head Teachers just like themselves and spend time understanding the requirements on their new role in some real depth and also continue to explore the key areas that make a Head Teacher so successful.  Our people love that they get to start their new role with some great clarity about what is expected of them in their new role and also getting to see first hand the wrap around support we offer them.
