First Steps Onslow

First Steps Onslow is a multicultural childcare centre offering quality care and education in the heart of Papakura. We provide and deliver to each individual child the best learning experiences and top quality, nurturing care from 3 months to 5 years.

At First Steps Onslow we focus on providing children with positive and fun interactions that engage our children as lifelong independent learners. We have an open-door policy and we welcome visitors to the centre. We would love to show you through our pre-school, toddler and infant rooms. We are open from 7am-6pm Monday to Friday and offer a variety of sessions.

In the Nursery (3 months – 2.6 years), we have a mixture of young infants, crawling babies and moving toddlers. We are lucky to have a separate area for our non-moving babies to provide opportunities for them to move, roll and explore together. We develop warm, responsive relationships with our children and our practice in this room is responsive and respectful of children’s autonomy, competence and capabilities. The learning and development opportunities provided are personalised to each child’s specific, individual needs.

In the Junior Kindy Room (2.6 years to 3.6 years), we have a natural environment that offers a variety of open ended and natural resources that engage children in critical thinking, problem solving, working by themselves and cooperatively with other children. We value and promote a learning programme that enables children the space and opportunity to explore, experiment and take risks when engaged in play. The teachers provide provocations to challenge their reflectivity to previous learning and critical inquiry to current and future learning based on the individual children’s interests, strengths and dispositions.

Our Senior Kindy Room (3.6 years to 5 years), supports opportunities for your child to be involved in independent research with and alongside their friends. Our room follows a child led programme which encourages children to investigate and explore their interests and theories with the guidance from passionate teachers. Our teachers provide an environment that sparks the natural curiosities of all children and encourages them to discover and develop their individual skills to succeed in school.  It is a wonderful area that invites children to run, climb, jump and develop the foundation skills needed for formal learning.
