First Steps Maich education and childcare centre is a home away from home for children who grow and learn in a multicultural setting, surrounded by passionate and dedicated staff. We are located in a quiet residential area in the heart of Manurewa, very close to the South Mall and main motorways. We cater for children from 3 months to 5 years in 4 rooms suitable for different age groups with spacious indoor and outdoor play areas.

As a team we believe parents are first teachers for their children and we strive to work in partnership with you for the best outcomes for your child. Our staff develop warm, reciprocal relationships between teachers, parents and children, ensuring children have a strong sense of security when they start their journey with us.

Our experienced teachers provide interaction in a safe, stimulating and challenging environment, providing equal learning for all, irrespective of ethnicity, gender or ability. We believe children learn through play and our staff are committed to providing a positive environment for exploration and discovery. Children are encouraged to learn alongside peers and caring adults. We provide quality care and education by building on children’s skills, strengths and dispositions.

Our unique Be School Ready initiative has been developed to ensure that children leave the centre as confident, capable learners and prepared for the next step in their education journey.

The atmosphere and vibe is amazing – my child tells me that she loves attending and she is only 3 years old.
