First Steps Ascot

First Steps Ascot is a newly renovated villa conveniently located between Remuera and Greenlane. We have a welcoming home away from home feel. We’re a small family-based childcare centre with close relationships with our children and families.

Open Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 5.30pm, the centre cares for children aged 3 months to 5 years. We have full day, morning and afternoon sessions, and offer the Government 20 ECE hours that are free for 3-5 year olds.

Modern learning environment - At First Steps Ascot we have beautifully renovated spaces that provide plenty of room for exploration and discovery. The modern decor and uncluttered set-ups invite children to discover at their own pace and cover all the curriculum areas (maths, science, pretend play, music, art). Teachers observe and plan learning experiences to extend on your child’s identified interests and skills.

Outdoor spaces - Not only do we have a fantastic indoor environment we also have a wonderful outdoor space. Our covered outdoor deck provides opportunities for our children to be out in the fresh air, even during the winter months. Our huge outdoor playground includes a bike track with slopes promoting physical education as well as a vegetable and herb garden with produce we use in the kitchen.

Shared spaces - An important part of our centre philosophy is to provide a ‘home away from home’ feeling. Part of this includes having shared spaces in the centre where siblings and our younger/older children can interact and engage in their learning. This demonstrates the concept of tuakana-teina relationships – where younger children learn from older children and vice versa. Transitions between the two rooms happen holistically and are led by the child with support from a primary caregiver.

Organic and sustainable products - We use eco store products (nappy balm, body wash, hand soap as well as laundry powder). Our menu is organic where possible and provides nutritious options for meal times. We have our very own vegetable and herb garden which the children contribute to. Recently we have added a compost system where our fruit scraps go to help the soil in our garden become more fertile. Organic bedding is also provided in our sleep rooms, to make sleep times more special and comfortable for your little one.
