BestStart Petone (formerly Early Years Petone) sits in the heart of the vibrant and ever growing Petone community. We thrive on adventure and discovery. Our vision is ‘Where the Wild Things Come to Play’. This is brought to life in the day to day adventures that take place as part of our exciting and enthusiastic centre programme.

Christmas Grotto

Open Tuesday 11 December from 9.30am to 11am and Tuesday 18 December from 1.30pm to 3.30pm

Come and see BestStart Petone's Christmas Grotto and get your free photo taken with Santa! We have created a magical Christmas wonderland that really brings the spirit of Christmas alive. We're opening the Grotto to the public for 2 special days - bring your child along to experience the wonder. We ask that you bring a small food donation for non-perishable food to be donated to our local food bank. We look forward to seeing you and spreading the Christmas cheer!


Our passionate team has a great sense of humour and love to make learning fun! We get excited and inspired about children’s learning and the endless possibilities of discovering where we can take this learning! BestStart Petone is a place children can come to explore, research and investigate and where making a mess is a part of everyday life. The outdoor space is set up to encourage exploration of our natural environment. Trees, bushes and gardens thrive with young explorers learning about how the world in the wild works.

We take the job of preparing children for a love of life time learning very seriously and we do this by encouraging open thinking and discussion, problem solving, risk taking, independence and leadership.  Teachers, children, parents and the community are all involved in supporting your child to develop social skills that are essential to becoming confident, happy and self-assured individuals for life.

Thank you so very much for taking care of our little girl. She absolutely loved coming to spend her days with you guys. It was awesome watching her grow and learn and it was fantastic to watch the bond she formed with her friends and teachers. You guys will never know how grateful we were to you for providing a loving, nurturing, fun and educational place for her during what was a very busy two years for us.
