ERO has rated BestStart Omahu Rd (formerly ABC Omahu Rd) in the top 7% of NZ childcare centres providing positive learning outcomes for children.

BestStart Omahu Rd consists of four adjoining rooms and two spacious playgrounds where children have lots of room to actively, investigate, explore and have fun with their friends. Our teachers plan your child’s learning experiences around their emerging interests and developmental stages. We share these experiences on Storypark (our online portfolio system) for you and your family to view and share. 

Our Teachers - Our passionate, qualified teachers are committed to providing your child with meaningful learning experiences.  Our teachers come from diverse cultural backgrounds and bring their in-depth understanding of how children learn and different areas of expertise together, to build strong foundations for your child and create a love of learning.

The Environment - Our centre caters for all ages and stages of your child’s development. From our quiet, nurturing infant nest exclusively for wee ones right through to school age where our passionate teachers ensure your child is well prepared and has the necessary skills to enter school with confidence and competence. Our outside areas are spacious and encourage children to run, jump, climb and explore in a safe and fun environment.

Operating Hours - Our centre has extended operating hours and opens from 6.45am until 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. We are located opposite the Hawke’s Bay Hospital, with links to the expressway for easy access to both Hastings and Napier.

Nutritious Meals - Our two lovely cooks create delicious meals including morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea and each of our dishes are approved by the Heart Foundation.

Learning Through Play - We value free play and believe that children learn best when they are engaged in learning experiences that interest them.  Our rooms are equipped with resources at children’s level so they can explore, create, and learn at their own pace. Teachers support learning by engaging, offering language and thought provoking questions within the learning environment.  At meals times your child will develop patience and turn taking, they will learn maths and science skills at the water trough, in the sandpit or while they are baking. They will learn about perseverance with blocks and communication and language skills in the puzzle corner – all while playing and having fun.
