BestStart Kaikohe
At BestStart Kaikohe, formerly known as ABC Kaikohe, we provide a warm, welcoming and nurturing environment for whanau and tamariki. We pride ourselves on the quality and experience of all our staff, and our inviting purpose built centre.
Our children are separated into three age and development appropriate rooms; He Taonga, He Pounamu, and Hei Tiki.
He Taonga – Infants up to 2 years old - Our infant room nurtures and cares for children from 3 months to 2 year olds. We have a beautiful safe environment, which is well equipped with age appropriate resources. Staff encourage parents and whanau to participate in the centre.
He Pounamu – Toddlers 2-3 years old - Our toddler room, for toddlers up to three years old promotes learning opportunities for children to have fun as well as develop social skills and self-help skills. Teachers lead a programme based on inquiry, where tamariki are encouraged to investigate and research their own interests. Excursions into the community are prearranged; a favourite is to the local library. Themed days are often initiated by the children and are embraced by the entire community. Our teachers promote and respond to opportunities to explore sustainability, role play, dramatic play, creativity, art, dance and movement.
Hei Tiki – Preschool from 3 years - In the pre-school room children are given opportunities to develop holistically through complex and engaging experiences. Literacy, numeracy, science, movement and creativity are some of the opportunities that are woven meaningfully into the children’s days. We provide BestStart’s unique Be School Ready initiative ensuring that children are best prepared for the transition to school. Once a week, children experience ‘Lunch Box Day’ and excursions to local schools are conducted regularly to help build school-readiness and ease the transition to school process. Parent participation is encouraged and welcomed in our community. Our unique initiative has been developed to ensure that children leave the centre as confident, capable learners and prepared for the next step in their education journey.
