BestStart Hokowhitu
At BestStart Hokowhitu, (formerly ABC Hokowhitu) your child has room to run free in our large outdoor areas and experience a home like centre geared towards care and education. We build a relationship between you and your child’s teacher that creates trust and respect and in turn enables your child to grow and develop to their full potential.
We are located close to the city centre (only a five minute walk), Linton Army Camp and Massey University. We also have several schools nearby that our children go on to attend; Hokowhitu School, College Street School, Winchester School, St James School, Riverdale School and Westend School to name a few.
For Under 2’s - This centre is newly renovated with a nice open plan space to ensure your child has lots of space to move and explore freely. It is a quiet and home like environment where our focus is on nurturing your child’s social, emotional, mental and physical development. Your child has one teacher dedicated to their needs and routine. Each teacher plans learning experiences for every child in their small group of children based on their interests and developmental stages. We also use New Zealand Sign Language with our infants and toddlers so they are able to communicate non-verbally until their verbal skills catch up to their understandings.
For Over 2’s - For our older children, we have two separate rooms with resources aimed at their particular stage of development and current interests. Both of these environments are literacy and numeracy rich, with a focus on social skills. Our over 2’s share a large outdoor space with plenty of challenging climbing equipment. There is a large sandpit that allows children to explore while working in their own space or alongside their peers.
Our Sparkles Room - Here we welcome children aged 2 to 3.5 year old and provide lots of room to explore and test their growing understanding of themselves. Each child has their own teacher who plans learning experiences to extend their knowledge and understanding through their interests.
Our Future Fives Room - This room has a focus on independence and the skills needed to fly once the children start school. They have access to computers and other forms of ICT related to their understanding. The teachers in the Future Fives use their knowledge of both the Early Childhood Curriculum Te Whaariki and the New Zealand Primary School Curriculum to support and extend your child at their own pace of learning.
