BestStart Coastal, previously Coastal Kids, is based in the heart of Beachands, open from 7:00am–5:30pm Monday to Friday and provide care for full days, short days or four hour sessions for children 3 months to 6 years. We believe in empowering children to develop their skills, positive attitudes and knowledge to support their lifelong love of learning.

Tui Nest (Infants)

Our Tui nest caters to our infants who have a primary carer to assist with the initial settling in period into our BestStart Coastal whanau.  The carer provides individual opportunities and support for each child to extend them in their own unique way and helps them to accomplish the wonderful milestones in a safe and loving environment.  Baby sign is used in the Tui nest to support and encourage early language while promoting feelings of empowerment.

Kea Forest (Toddlers)

Our Kea forest room is for our 2-3 year olds where we foster respectful, nurturing relationships with age appropriate learning experiences to help children learn and develop.  As educators, we are continually extending and strengthening their learning in a positive, holistic manner, shaping life-long learners.  Our infants and toddlers rooms share a playground where children can explore the natural environment and grow to be themselves.  The older children love to support the younger ones, embracing the concept of ‘tuakana teina’ as the older children are encouraged to work alongside the younger peers to support their learning journey.

Pukeko (Pre-schoolers)

Our Pukeko swamp room is for our Preschoolers which has a fantastic Be School Ready initiative to ensure happy, confident children who are equipped with the social, emotional and academic skills to prepare them for school. Our classroom is a child led programme which encourages children to investigate and explore their interests and theories with the guidance from passionate teachers.  Our educators provide an environment that sparks the natural curiosities of all children and encourages them to discover and develop their individual skills to succeed in school.  It is a wonderful area that invites children to run, climb, jump and develop the foundation skills needed for formal learning in a spacious outdoor environment.

“Captain Awesome’s” Mobile swim school is a heated, indoor mobile pool specialises in teaching children from 2-5yrs in Hero themed swimming lessons with a Qualified and experienced swimming instructor. 

We promote healthy eating, and our wonderful centre cook prepares nutritious meals following the NZ Heart Foundation guidelines as well as catering for children with allergies, cultural and religious eating preferences.

My son was shy on talking. The teachers at Coastal Kids Beachlands worked with our family to help achieve our goals and encouraged my son to keep practicing his words on a daily basis. We are so proud of the progress he has made and grateful for the support from his teachers. It’s great to see his confidence and his social skills improving – thank you to all his amazing teachers.

The staff (past and present) have all been fantastic! My child who is sadly leaving next week to start primary school has had the best relationships with all staff, and has made some lasting friendships with fellow children. I am saddened that she is leaving after 4 years of being well looked after at the centre, but as the same time I am excited for her next big step to the ‘big school’, as she is very ready academically. I look forward to the ongoing support from the centre, with my youngest child over the next 3 years!!

The centre is a superb second home for my boys. The staff are AMAZING. I have a child that struggles with behaviour and the staff are just so great at helping with any issues and feedback and encouragement. I am indebted to Coastal Kids for all their help, love and support.
